Eat your way to lovely skin
Here is a list of foods and food groups which all help to maintain a lovely skin. The objective is to get into the habit of including most of these, most days. If you do that, it shouldn’t be long before you look – and feel – full of vitality, with a healthy glow to your skin.
1. Foods rich in beta-carotene, such as carrots. Beta-carotene is stored in fat under the surface of the skin so it provides a natural barrier to UV light. This helps to prevent the aging effects of sunlight.
2. Selenium-rich foods, such as wholemeal bread and brazil nuts. Selenium helps your skin retain its firmness and elasticity because it slows the breakdown of collagen and elastin in the skin.
3. Vitamin C-rich foods, such as citrus fruits, peppers and tomatoes. Vitamin C is needed in collagen production, which keeps your skin supple.
4. Berries contain substances which help to strenthen the walls of capillaries - tiny blood vessels that carry nutrients to the skin cells.
5. Vitamin A-rich foods, such as sweet potatoes and tomatoes (again!) Vitamin A helps prevent wrinkles forming.
